FAQs

Please complete an enquiry form on our website or email admin@perins-preschool.net and we will arrange a visit for you.

We understand that sometimes you may be running late, so please ring the nursery at your earliest opportunity so that we can arrange cover if required. By law we must adhere to specific adult/child ratios so collecting your child on time is very important. We have a late collection fee of £5.

We provide settling in sessions to ensure that both you and your child are fully prepared for your first day at Perins Pre-School. You will be sent paperwork before your first settling in session. The first settle session is usually for 1 hour during which time we ask you stay while your child can play in their environment with you close by. We ask that you bring you child’s Birth Certificate with you at the first session. After the initial session we work around you and book in either 1 or 2-hour sessions. We can offer as many settling sessions as needed. This is very dependent on you and your child’s individual needs.

We understand that your first day may be emotional for you. You are welcome to come in and stay with your child for a few minutes or you can hand them straight over to one of the staff, it is your choice, and neither is right or wrong. Either way, you are welcome to call us once, twice, or maybe more times within the day and we will update you on how your child is settling.  Your child will begin to explore their surroundings and take part in the daily activities on offer. When you come to collect, we will let you know what they have been doing by a hand over with a member of the pre-school team member.

On your settle session your child’s key person will inform you of anything you need to bring along with you. Where applicable, this will include nappies. Wipes, and nappy cream. It’s always good to have a change of clothes as they will be taking part in lots of activities which may get messy. Also, any comforters they may need such as a dummy, cuddly toy, or blanket.  We ask that each child comes with their own water bottle for them to access throughout the day. We also ask that you also provide suncream and a sun hat during warm weather and welly boots for rainy weather.

If your child has an accident whilst at pre-school, we will record all the details onto a form for you to read and sign on collection. If the accident is significant, we may decide to give you a call to inform you prior to collection. Any emergencies we would follow our procedure and react in the best interest for the child first, informing you at the earliest opportunity.

If your child is hurt or injured at home, please do let us know when you arrive at pre-school. We will ask you to complete an existing injury form to explain that this happened at home. We do have a duty of care to safeguard all children within our care and we are duty bound to receive this information.

Biting is very common within early years and can happen for a variety of reasons. We understand that biting can be very distressing for both the children and parents involved so we will inform you if this happens within the day. Where biting becomes a regular occurrence, we will invite you to meet with our designated nursery SENCo who will support you and your child.

Yes, we use the catering company Hungry Monsters for our hot lunches, and we will supply them with details about your child’s dietary needs. Any food allergies are displayed with the details of the allergy/ intolerance in the kitchen area and, we use a red plate system, so you do not need to worry. Due to the nature of allergies only children undergoing allergy testing or have confirmed allergies have a red plate.

If your child becomes ill at pre-school, we will follow our procedure for that particular illness. In most circumstances we will contact you to inform you of your child’s health and offer advice to get it checked or ask you to make arrangements to collect your child.

We are only able to administer medication that has been prescribed by a doctor or dentist and clearly shows the prescription label. We ask that your child has have been on this medication 24 hours prior to returning to pre-school to ensure that they do not have a negative reaction to it. Medication can be given with parental permission.

All children are entitled to 15 hours from the government the term after their third birthday. We will ask you to fill in a form to enable receipt of this. In addition, some children may be entitled to more (2-year funding, additional hours) funding. We provide our early years funding via a standard scheme. This means  that 15 hours per week can be claimed for 38 weeks of the year.  We will have 5 non- funded days in which we will not be able to claim funding for and these sessions will be charged at the normal rate. These dates will be in the summer term and we will let you know when they are.

If you have any concerns at all, please inform the manager as soon as possible. You can do this by speaking to them or by email if easier for you. We do take your concerns very seriously and knowing this enables us to act professionally and efficiently in dealing with the situation.

If your child has a comforter that they are much attached to you are welcome to send that into Pre-School. Toys do get lost or broken so we do refrain from other toys being brought in
